Mood & Atmosphere in Man from the South

Let's explore our minds! This question was asked during class discussion...

In your words, discuss the mood and atmosphere in the hotel room (i.e. How suspence was built up in the room).

Subject:How was suspense built up in the hotel room?

The suspense was build up by starting talking about the atmosphere like describing the "drinks" first and then the maid which gives the reader a curiosity about "why did the maid came in", then roald dahl also wrote about what the old man wanted (e.g.nails,hammer,chopping knife,) and describing about what the old man wanted(e.g. "a butcher's chopping knife"), roald dahl also wrote about how the old man was serious about the bet and the business of cutting of the finger, and explaining what will happen and the outcome to the american sailor if he lost, that will give the reader the curiosity and attention to what is going to happen next...Roald dahl also said about how the oldish man prepare himself and tying the america sailor hands on the table, Roald dahl also wrote the counting of the striking of the american sailor, so that the reader will be hesistate about what will happen if the lighter runs out...He also change the mood by writing about the woman who came in the hotel room, this gives the reader a relieve as no one will lose anything...

Well done PATRICK , VERNON , KAI XIANG , RI SHENG!
You have not only commented on the sub-characters like the maid, but also described in detail, how the Man goes about 'preparing' to win the bet. At the same time, you stated how the Man's wife changes the atmosphere of the otherwise 'tensed' atmosphere in the hotel room.
